A total of 16 members from Central Christian Church participated in the second Weekend Experience as part of The Journey effort that our church board authorized earlier this year. The purpose of The Journey is to help congregations develop leaders and ideas to strengthen and revitalize their churches for ministry in the 21st Century. The second Weekend Experience was held at Eureka College June 28-30 and led by Rick Morse from the Disciples Hope Partnership as well as Illinois-Wisconsin regional staff. During this time, we learned to evaluate current church ministries, think creatively and to begin dreaming and setting goals for future ministry. This led to a great deal of creative thinking by our team and lots of ideas of steps our church can take to reach out more effectively in the community. The session ended with a “28-Day Challenge” to encourage congregations to begin taking the first steps in moving forward.
Our Journey Team has already met once since the Weekend Experience to work on the “28-Day Challenge.” During that time, the group divided into several teams to address the points set forth in the challenge and will bring their ideas and plans back to the total group that is scheduled to meet again on June 21. We believe some exciting ideas will come forth.
Those attending the second Weekend Experience were: Mary Margaret Barkley, Linda Culotti, Anna Beth Gilmour, Dalton Halls, Dianne and Don Hendricks, Charlie Nygren, Mary Lou and Tom Stone, Helen Schendel, Marci and Reggie Warfield, Millie Wilson, Steve Wilson, Deann and Hank Anderson. Also part of The Journey team, but unable to attend the second weekend experience, are Becci and Chuck Cline, Patsy Jones, Shawn Mallady, and Gene Owen.
